I could be assulted by cavemen for this title myself. I will then be flash mobbed by way of a crowd of irritated Bear-loving protestors holding photos of Kevin Smith, after they get through reading the whole article.

However the internet is THE location for sharing your unsolicited & generalized opinions with the world. I understand you agree, Bernie B (in case you are unfamiliar, the aforementioned dude-guy shared his perspective on vaginal grooming some months in the past). The internet is a master of cruelty, and when I examine some thing so notion-frightening, that pertains to half the arena’s populace, no less, I ought to concentrate to that little voice in my head telling me to respond.

I’m also here to speak regarding realities as well, realities which can be primarily based on my own non-public opinion & experience (due to the fact I’m aware that you care about that) and late-night chats with male friends of mine who happily “suffer” from Alopecia.

Darwin’s notion of “survival of the fittest” is not just fish developing legs dudes! It’s approximately adapting to what society tells you to do, and ensuring you keep up with every fad via the times. Men needed hair to stay warm in the winter back in the beginning of times, and to help camouflage them within the timber at the same time as they have been hunting dinosaur. Sure, hair was a survival necessity, however those days are long gone. But, there’s really no need to look that far back into existence. For a perspective on how men were seen differently we can go just a few decades back: the famous example of Abraham Lincoln’s beard, which is recorded to have helped him win his presidential campaign, would be scoffed in the present political eye. This is just certainly one of millions of examples of how time, and tradition, and peer strain have affected our view on men’s body hair.

Why not take a quick Google through history on how society has changed the definition of handsome, as we became more civilized & technologically advanced:

Ancient Times: A metal false beard was worn by kings and queens in Egypt which noted sovereignty. The Spartans would shave cowards bald as punishment, as hairless-ness was seen as a sign of effeminacy.

Renaissance through 18th Century: the vast majority of Europeans were smooth-shaven. In 1705 Russia, Peter the Great order all man to shave and even levied a tax on beards.

20s-30s: In the USA, popular films portrayed heros with smooth shaven faces and short hair.

The 50s: Intense hairy-ness became a popular fashion amongst “hippies” and “beatniks”, and soon even men of business were growing out their hair.

Those are examples I chose & picked out from the “history of facial hair” segment on Wikipedia, to expose what I agree with is a correct instance of mainstream ideals for the duration of different times and cultures.

Let’s get back to my main topic. All male body hair.

But first simply, here’s a brief excerpt from a diary entry written by a lady* in 2013:

I decided to say yes to his request for a date via the online dating site, because he said he was lonely, and I know how that feels — and you know what that crazy asshole had done to himself? He had shaved his face completely clean and gotten a brand new haircut. Have you ever heard of this kind of behavior for a first date? It’s ridiculous isn’t it? I was mostly upset because now I could see what he looked like. I could see every detail of his perfectly chiseled chin, dimples and all. I couldn’t stop touching it, you should have seen me! It was like I was seeing a man for the first time in my life. And the more I looked at him, the more insecure I felt. How am I supposed to talk to a man if I can actually see his face? The hair is what helps shield his attractiveness and keep my jealousy at bay!

Reading that textual content (*which I in reality just wrote) I was stunned. I notion there was sarcasm to it (there is), however I quickly realized I was lacking something. Don’t all ladies want dude to be clean shaven? What happened? Why is it so repulsive for me to even be seen with a man who has hair on his body? Although it’s not only me! That paragraph above was stupid! It doesn’t even make sense in this article. Maybe it’s the medication I would take from that time I thought I’d been abducted by extraterrestrial beings. When I share my “hairy reports” with my friends, I get the identical response from every body (that’s all 3 of my friends). And please don’t take what I’m speaking of for face value, promise. I don’t mind if you can’t reach that small region of your back with your razor blade, or if  you can’t afford laser hair removal. However, when I can’t get wet, don’t look at me. Let me thoroghly beat this personal opinion into you.

I don’t blame guys who don’t shave their bodies, I blame that pothead olympic swimmer who gave guys with clean appendages an awful name. I’m from a generation where everybody with online access has an opinion that they feel the want to shout from the rooftops of the Reddit workplaces. I’m constantly being informed what to do to be attractive and what to find attractive in different humans. Humans attempt to shove their personal ideals down my throat, but why listen to them? My thoughts are glaringly more factual as you may see from this article. I see mag covers each week once I’m in the check out line at the grocery store. I watch television, go browsing to facebook, and tweet regularly. I’m bombarded with the opinions & thoughts of others. I’m surrounded through photographs of shirtless men, proudly baring their clean shaven chests for the planet to notice. These are the dudes my mind registers & recollects, due to the fact those are the guys I find most appealing. Considering that I’m mind washed by the photos, i will only count on that each one women are as well, and that they proportion my notion approximately what makes a man appealing. If women wanted to cuddle with some thing blanketed in hair, we’d be at home with our cats. Besides, it’s way better for your personal hygiene, dudes.

I’m aware that, it’s fucked up. And this is part of a bigger issue this is jogging rampant in television and the net. The constant stream of peer pressure to fit into some else’s standards is exhausting, however it is essential for society to end up one blob of grey sameness.

Sure, you may disregard the noise, start a revolution of self expression & individuality in a certain form of your choosing (along with the use of your very own body). Though I see this as a quite far fetched dream.

But until then, shave off all your body hair, dude. It’s fucking intimidating to me.
